A grain shed is the most cost-effective long-term and secure bulk storage option for grain, storing larger volumes at a significantly lower cost per tonne than silo storage.
Get the design right and you also protect grain quality, speed up loading and unloading, and open up more market opportunities.
A grain shed is also a highly versatile farming storage asset. Store grain at harvest, fertiliser at sowing, and machinery in the off-season, all from the one shed.

Best-Practice Grain Shed Configuration:
- Fully-enclosed shed, with concrete panel walls.
- Standard span widths include 18m for smaller-scale storage, and 24m or 27m for larger bulk facilities. A 27m span lets a truck turn inside the shed.
- Popular eave heights range from 6.75m to 9m, matched to your truck access and clearance needs.
- A 21 degree roof pitch is recommended, accommodating grain’s angle of repose and allowing a truck to tip inside the shed.
- Concrete panel walls at 3m to 3.5m, with 3.5m the most cost-effective and functional option. Movable L-walls run 2.4m or 3m, giving you segregation without losing capacity.
- Customise further with sliding doors and cantilevered canopies for sheltered access.
